Welcome to Week 2 of Whetu Survivor, we got to do Bush Survivor with Mrs Kennedy! It was really challenging finding out what S.T.O.P means but I figured it out, and it says what it means in the description below.
Shelter
- Build on dry ground or your shelter will sink into the runny mud.
- Build up on high ground so if it floods you will not get drenched in water.
- Don’t build on a sloped hill or you may fall while your sleeping.
Finding Water
- Dig anywhere that is slightly damp because you will most likely find a source of water.
- NEVER drink salt water. It will just make you more thirsty.
- Make sure it is clear and smells normal.
Fire
- Never make a fire with wet wood because you will just have a smokey, fire and most likely it will go out.
- Make sure there is a source of water nearby so if the fire goes out of control, you can put it out.
- When you make/light a fire you need Dry Wood, Heat Fuel and Oxygen.
Bush Survival
What Does S.T.O.P Stand for in the bush
- S. Stands for Stop
- T. Stands for Think
- O. Stands for Observe
- P. Stands for Plan
Signalling for Help
- First you should scream “HELP HELP I NEED HELP” so somebody will recognise that somebody needs help.
- Do the S.O.S Signal and a helicopter might recognise you.
- Use a flare gun so someone will recognise you.
Basic First Aid
- Stay calm.
- Make sure you know what you are doing before acting.
- Make sure you know what has happened before trying anything.
